Ty Croes Herd of Alpacas in Wales

Blenheim David alpaca at stud

Stud Male Blenheim David looking for the girls!

Ty Croes Alpacas was established by Douglas Hunt in 1997 with three pregnant females (which had been imported from Chile) purchased from Arunvale Alpacas. There are now thirteen females in the herd and three stud males, two of which are shared with two other breeders, namely Mrs Gillespie & Mr Watkin.

The Ty Croes herd is a member of the British Alpaca Society (BAS) and our alpacas are registered with the Society. Males are at stud at a fee to visiting females by appointment. The Stud Males are:

There are two varieties of the alpaca (latin name: lama pacos), the Huacaya and the Suri. The Huacaya has relatively short fibre which is dense, curly and voluminous and covers almost all the body with only the face and lower parts of the legs having a covering of short fibres. The Suri has long, straight hair which is silky and exceptionally lustrous. All of the alpacas at Ty Croes are Huacaya.

Various adult male alpacas are available as "pets" (all over three years of age) and there will be young weaned males of six months of age available from December 2006.

If you are thinking of starting or increasing a breeding herd of alpacas, Ty Croes will have a few pregnant females available in 2007.
